I first developed a love for music when
ATB released 9pm (Till I Come) in 1999. Then when Ministry
of Sound – The Clubbers Guide mixed by Judge Jules was
released in 1999, that’s when I realised that this was more
than just music to me; it had become a passion of mine which
has developed with ferocity over the years.
Summer 2002 is when my passion became
serious, as it is when I decided that I wanted to be a DJ.
The previous summer, I saw Paul Oakenfold at a night called
Sugarshack at The Empire in Middlesbrough. It is the only
time that I can honestly say I’ve seen a crowd go wild and
this is what I want to achieve with my mixing. I want to be
the person who can control the crowds’ emotions and actions
and have them eating out the palm of my hand so to speak.
My musical influence initially was Judge
Jules who I have spoken to via e-mail and who I have major
respect for; but in 2003, I saw Paul Van Dyk at the
Sugarshack at The Empire in Middlesbrough. His mixing was
inspirational to me and has continued to inspire me. When he
was named Number One, I knew that was my way forward.
My style of mixing differs to others that
I’ve heard. I like to start softly and get harder and
harder; I want the crowd to feel like I’m taking them on a
journey, building them up from scratch. I believe my mixing
is more substantial and crowd pleasing than what I’ve
personally heard with the exception of the set by Paul
Oakenfold mentioned earlier. I don’t use CD’s and it’s rare
that I’ll use Vinyl. I use Final Scratch for my mixing and I
keep my files regularly up-dated so my tunes are never out
of date.
Please take the time to listen to my mix:
